The Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino on Palm Beach has been named as the 23rd best resort in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Bahamas region by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine.

Travel + Leisure’s annual World’s Best Awards poll is determined by reader input on hotels, cruises, airlines, travel companies and top cities to visit.

Washington Redskins cheerleader calendar shoot

The Washington Redskins cheerleader squad will be holding a calendar shoot at the Radisson Hotel on Palm Beach on May 31. Tickets for the event go on sale today in the hotel lobby and are priced at $10 (including one drink). The shoot will run from 8 pm to 9 pm.

Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2008

Two hotels in Aruba featured in Trip Advisor’s 2008 Travellers’ Choice Awards announced earlier this month. The Paradera Park Apartments were ranked 10th in the Top 10 Best Hidden Gems in Latin America/Caribbean and 5th in the Top 10 Best Bargains in Latin America/Caribbean, while the Bucuti Beach Resort came 10th in the Top 10 Best Hotels for Romance in the World and 5th in the Top 10 Best Hotels For Romance in Latin America/Caribbean.

TripAdvisor is the world’s largest online travel community. The Travellers’ Choice Awards were determined by a combination of TripAdvisor’s Popularity Index and traveller ratings.

Tuscany restaurant closes

The Tuscany Italian restaurant at the Aruba Marriott Resort closed today. It will reopen as a Ruth’s Chris Steak House on January 21 2008.

$40 million renovation of Aruba Marriott Resort starts today

The Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino began the first phase of its $40 million refurbishment program today. The scheme includes a total makeover of all 411 rooms, a new restaurant, and a makeover of the lobby and reception areas.

Rooms will feature new furnishings, LCD televisions, new bedding, and marble tiled bathrooms. The Ristorante Tuscany will be replaced by a Ruth’s Chris Steak House. The first phase is expected to be complete by January 2008.

The second phase includes upgrades to La Vista restaurant and renovation of the North Tower rooms. It is expected to get underway in April 2008 and take approximately 4 months to complete.

Restricted area declared

The Aruba Government has declared the sea between the Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort and the Divi Aruba Phoenix Beach Resort a restricted area. Jet-skis and other motorised vessels are permitted in the area but must reduce their speed and avoid making waves. Anchorage in this restricted zone is forbidden.

New hotels receive planning permission

The Sunrise Rock Development Group has received planning permission from the government to build 3 five-star hotels in Aruba. The Aruba Rock Hotel and Spa will offer 200 rooms and will be situated approximately half a mile from Baby Beach and will also feature a golf course, while the Boca Grande Beach hotel will offer 450 rooms and a casino and will be specifically targeted at high stakes gamblers. The group are also planning a 500-room hotel at Baby Beach itself.

Bucuti Beach Resort honoured

Louis Vuitton store opens

Louis Vuitton, the luxury French fashion and leather goods brand, has opened its first store in Aruba. The exclusive store is located at the Renaissance Mall in Oranjestad.

Westin Aruba Resort opens today

The Westin Aruba Resort on Palm Beach opens for business today. Formerly the Aruba Resort Spa and Casino, it has been completely renovated by Starwood Hotels. With 478 rooms it is the largest resort on the island.
